Junior Certificate at Nagle Rice Secondary School

The table underneath shows a list of 18 subjects currently available at Junior Certificate Level in Nagle Rice.  Fifteen of these are examination subjects.


Each student takes 10 subject to Junior Certificate level.  Subjects are available at both Higher and Ordinary level with the exception of CSPE which is offered only at a Common Level nationally.

Transition Year at Nagle Rice Secondary School

The Mission:

To promote the personal, social, educational and vocational development of the students and to prepare them for their role as autonomous, participative and responsible members of society.


Transition Year at Nagle Rice is a one-year optional programme. It provides a bridge to enable students make the transition from Junior to Senior cycle. It encourages personal and social development and recognises the need for students to grow in independence. Transition Year fosters academic achievement as students prepare for a Leaving Certificate Programme, further study and adult and working life. It encourages the development of a wide range of transferable critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.

Students who wish to take Transition Year make a formal application and are interviewed. They are selected on the basis of suitability. All students study Irish, English and Maths while they also get an opportunity to sample most of the Leaving Certificate subjects available in Nagle Rice.



The Programme:


Nagle Rice devises its own timetabled programme to cater for the needs of its students. This is done in accordance with the Department of Education & Science guidelines and school and community resources. The programme is designed and delivered by the Co-ordinator, core team and teaching staff in consultation with management. Our Transition Year programme offers students a broad and balanced curriculum covering such areas as:
