The majority of students remain in school at lunchtime. Students are well supervised by staff members. Hot food is provided for students and a variety of recreational facilities are available.


Teams from the school take part successfully in inter-school competition in the following sports: Football, Hurling, Camogie, Basketball, Orienteering, Athletics and Golf.


Music is taught from First year right through to Leaving Certificate level. Traditional Irish Music is studied as an integral part of the music programme. There is also a school choir which takes part in various school events. Concerts and musicals are also staged on occasions, Nagle Rice students also take part in local productions each year as well as travelling to see a wide variety of performances.

The Doneraile Youth Choir (DYC), consisting of students from 1st - 6th year, participate in many parish liturgies throughout the year, and have been involved in the hugely successful Teen SpiriT shows in the INEC, Killarney and Cork Opera House; performing with the Irish Concert Orchestra on their recent tour through Doneraile, and in 2012 appearing on "Carols from the Castle" on RTE. Nagle Rice has a very active student council under the supervision of members of staff. The council is elected by students of all years. The students have an input into the organisation of the school, are involved in many fundraisers throughout the year and are consulted on key policy issues.


Nagle Rice has a Committee dedicated to improving awareness of and promoting Positive Mental Health in the school community.  Nagle Rice has received two Amber Flags do date.


Rotary Youth Leadership, Toastmasters Public Speaking, Drama, Quizzes, Badminton, Debating, Table Tennis, Pool, Outdoor Pursuits and Soccer!


Night classes are organised for Autumn / Spring. These include Computer Classes up to E.C.D.L. level. Other courses that have been provided are Woodwork, Cookery, Photography, French / German / Irish Conversation, Art, Interior Design and Aerobics. The school is also a F.E.T.A.C. centre which means that it is fully recognised as a provider of Post-Leaving Certificate Courses. At present F.E.T.A.C. courses in Computers are provided for adults.


A chance for the whole school to reflect and celebrate the importance of Friendship in our school community, through concerts, art and English competitions, guest speakers, buddy systems and a whole-school focus on friendship and anti-bullying.


Promoting the importance of eating well and exercising, as well as positive mental health, activities include: Breakfast Club, Lunchtime Circuit Training, Basketball Blitzes, Long Puck contests, Guest Speakers, Sports Afternoon, GAA Blitzes, Whole School Treasure Hunt in Doneraile Park.

Student Activities
