Positive Behaviour Management
A School is Successful when all involved are in agreement with the basis on which the school functions.
The principle of care and concern for other pupils and their education provides the basis on which all other aspects of the school is built.
- Students are encouraged to do well at all times, to respect themselves, their fellow pupils, their teachers and the school. The code of behaviour has recently been reviewed in consultation with staff, parents’ council and the board of management. In our revised code of behaviour acknowledgement is also given for positive behaviour.
- Each Subject Teacher plays a key role in monitoring the progress of our student.
- The Class Teacher takes an overall view of the student and meets his / her class on a regular basis, checks the homework diary, encourages and acknowledges effort and suggests improvement and correction when necessary.
- The Year Head is the overall co-ordinator of each student's welfare for their particular year. Each Year Head conducts an assembly each morning for their year group.
- Year Heads, Deputy Principal and Principal meet on a regular basis to ensure that each student is making satisfactory progress and is not hindering the progress of others.
- Regular contact and communication with parents / guardians is an essential part of positive behaviour management. The homework diary is an essential element of this system of communication. Students use it to record their homework, parents may use it to contact the school, e.g. notes for absences, appointments etc. and teachers may use it if they feel it is necessary to contact parents on any issue. Parents are requested to sign the diary at least once a week.
- Reports, letters, parent-teacher meetings and general meetings e.g. CAO meetings are an essential part of this communication system.
